The most recent Pipeline Health recipient of the prestigious DAISY Award is an LVN who works on the Med/Surg/Telemetry unit at East Los Angeles Doctors Hospital.
Irma Covarrubias, LVN, received the award Nov. 6. She joined the East LA team on Sept. 29, 2008.
The DAISY Award recognizes a nurse’s deep caring and compassion for the patients they serve.
Covarrubias was nominated by a patient who recently underwent dialysis. The patient shared that while he was hospitalized, he was anxious about what dialysis would mean for him after discharge, and he was overwhelmed by his complex medication regimen.
The patient reported that Covarrubias sat with him and clearly alleviated his concerns.
He said she took the time to explain everything, especially what to expect after discharge.
“I wasn’t sure about the medications—there were a lot—but she walked me through each one,” he wrote. “She made me feel at ease about my health and gave me hope that I’ll recover quickly and won’t have to deal with this treatment for too long.”
